School News – 30 April 2026

Dogs in the Playground
Polite reminder that dogs cannot be in the playground.  This includes using the school playground after the school day to walk or exercise dogs, as we need to ensure that the playground is free from any dog mess.  Thank you for your support with this.

Sun Screen
As the weather is getting warmer, can we ask that on days forecast to be hot, you put Sun Screen on your child prior to them coming to school. Unfortunately the school is unable to apply Sun Screen.

Sports Day
Our first date for Sports Day is the morning of Friday 5th June.  Our back up date is now the morning of Thursday 11th June.  Please note our back up date had previously been Friday 12th June.  I apologise for any inconvenience with the change of back up date.

We look forward to seeing you on the field and hope the weather is kind.

Staffing Update
We welcome our new Business Manager Anieka Young and say goodbye to Andrew Fair after 23 years at Craigentinny.

Mrs Kelly our Administrator will be leaving us on the 21st May after almost 10 years at Craigentinny.  We wish Mrs Kelly well in her new admin post at a school, closer to home, in Midlothian.

Jackie Law our Pupil Support Office (previously Family Support Officer from Circle) leaves us on the 30th April for a new post at another Edinburgh school. We wish Jackie all the best with her new role.

Ms Davis, P6A is currently absent and Mr Jordan is covering the class Monday to Thursday with Ms Hunter as normal on a Friday.

Mrs Cooper, P6/7 is our Acting Principal Teacher with responsibility for P7.  Mrs Cooper is out of class on a Tuesday and this will mostly be covered by Ms Hunter.

Absence
It is crucially important that you contact school to inform us of your child’s absence by any of the options below:

Phone or voicemail on 0131 661 2749.

Text or message via the Groupcall EduSpot App.

Email on admin@craigentinny.edin.sch.uk

Failure to let us know that your child is absent will mean that you will receive multiple calls and messages until we have information about where your child is.  This is for important safety reasons and ensures that both school and home know where the child is.  Failure to get in touch or respond to the messages and calls means that we report a welfare concern for your child to Social Care Direct.  It is also important to know the reason for your child’s absence as we required to monitor and report infectious conditions e.g. sickness and diarrhoea to the Health Protection Team.  We really appreciate your support with this.

Parenting Across Scotland

House of Hormones – Thursday 14 May, 5:30-7pm, online

Join Parenting Across Scotland and Cyrenians Scottish Centre for Conflict Resolution as they delve into the issues households can face when generations within a family enter puberty and perimenopause at the same time. Joined by Lyndsay Harrison, General Nurse Practitioner and founder of Workplace Menopause Support, we’ll break down what’s going on in perimenopausal and teenage bodies and brains – and how to return the House of Hormones to peace.

Diary Dates – May

Class Coffee Mornings
We are looking forward to welcoming you into school for our class coffee mornings again this session. These relaxed gatherings are a lovely chance for you to hear directly from the children about what they have been learning, see some of their work, and enjoy a chat with your child about their learning with a cup of tea or coffee. Each class will host their own coffee morning, where pupils will share highlights of their learning. You might hear about a favourite topic, see a piece of work they are proud of, or hear about a range of areas of the curriculum. Two adults are welcome to attend for each pupil.

Here are the timings:

  • P1–P2: 9:15am
  • P3–P7: 9:00am
  • ESB: 11:10am
  • P6A, P6/7, P7A: 9.15am to 10.30am

Each coffee morning will last around 30 minutes. The dates for each class are:

14.05.26P3B
03.06.26P1B
04.06.26P1A

We hope you will be able to join us — it means so much to the children to share their learning with you, and we always enjoy having families in school.
