“Take Yourself Funny for Money– Comic Relief – Red Nose Day 2026
Red Nose Day will take place on Friday 20th March.  Pupils can come to school that day wearing something red, to support Red Nose Day!

Sports team kits/tops are not permitted.

We are also inviting pupils to think of their favourite joke. Winning jokes will be shared at our school assembly.

At Craigentinny we are still heavily involved in the 1 in 5 poverty campaign and are extremely mindful of the cost of the school day, therefore there is no expectation that children bring in cash donations.  If you wish to donate, please feel free to do so via this link Donate | Comic Relief

Calm Boxes
We are topping up our classroom calm boxes. If anyone has fidget or sensory toys they are no longer using, could they please be donated to the school.

School Crossing Consultation
The school crossing patrol section within the City of Edinburgh council has undertaken a review of all unmanned School Crossing patrol sites established across the city.

After a series of traffic surveys and observations 17 locations have been put forward for potentially being disestablished. The crossing point in your area is:

Craigentinny Primary: Craigentinny Road/ Loaning Road (Pelican)

The purpose of this email is to seek consultation with the school and the school community prior to any formal decision being implemented.

Any feedback can be made via email to the following email address

Katy.kane@edinburgh.gov.uk

The consultation exercise is open until 30/04/2026.

Reminders

Toys
Children should not be bringing toys into school, this includes small fidget toys unless this is part of an identified support strategy with the class teacher.

Phones and Smart Watches
Children cannot use phones or smart watches (with the function to call or message) during the school day for any reason.  Children who bring mobile phones are asked to keep these in their school bags or hand them into their class teacher for safe keeping.  Children wearing smart watches with the function to message or call will be asked to do the same thing and these cannot be worn during the school day.  Phones and smart watches are also not permitted in the school playground before the start of the school day.  Children are asked to put away phones and smart watches by school staff when they arrive in the school playground in the morning.

PE Kits
Please ensure that children are wearing non branded PE kit which includes a suitable pair or trainers.  For Health and Safety reasons children cannot be wearing boots for PE.

Absence
It is crucially important that you contact school to inform us of your child’s absence by any of the options below:

Phone or voicemail on 0131 661 2749.

Text or message via the Xpressions App.

Email on admin@craigentinny.edin.sch.uk

Failure to let us know that your child is absent will mean that you will receive multiple calls and messages until we have information about where your child is.  This is for important safety reasons and ensures that both school and home know where the child is.  Failure to get in touch or respond to the messages and calls means that we report a welfare concern for your child to Social Care Direct.  It is also important to know the reason for your child’s absence as we required to monitor and report infectious conditions e.g. sickness and diarrhoea to the Health Protection Team.  We really appreciate your support with this.

School Lunches
Please remember you need to book school lunches by 10pm on a Wednesday for the following week. You can book lunches up until the Easter Holidays.

Scooters and Bikes
Please ensure that all scooters and bikes are locked up in the playground. We have had a number of scooters stolen, due to not being securely stored.

Class Coffee MorningsWe are looking forward to welcoming you into school for our class coffee mornings again this session. These relaxed gatherings are a lovely chance for you to hear directly from the children about what they have been learning, see some of their work, and enjoy a chat with your child about their learning with a cup of tea or coffee. Each class will host their own coffee morning, where pupils will share highlights of their learning. You might hear about a favourite topic, see a piece of work they are proud of, or hear about a range of areas of the curriculum. Two adults are welcome to attend for each pupil.

Here are the timings:

  • P1–P2: 9:15am
  • P3–P7: 9:00am
  • ESB: 11:10am
  • P6A, P6/7, P7A: 9.15am to 10.30am

Each coffee morning will last around 30 minutes. The dates for each class are:

31.03.26P6A, P6/7, P7A

03.06.26P1B
04.06.26P1A

We hope you will be able to join us — it means so much to the children to share their learning with you, and we always enjoy having families in school.
