School News – 26 March 2026

Staffing Update
Our long-standing Business Manager, Andrew Fair is retiring at the Easter break after being with us for almost 23 years.  Anieka Young, will be our new Business Manager, starting with us after the Easter break, she is already a Business Manager at another school in Edinburgh.  We look forward to welcoming Anieka to our team.

Jackie has successfully secured a permanent post at St Ninians and will be leaving us on Thursday 30th April.  Jackie will continue to work with pupils and families, working on positive endings.  We will be looking at ways for Jackie’s role to evolve and continue in some format for the new session in August.

Ms Lauren McLaughlin has now joined us as the class teacher, full time, for P1A.  Welcome to Craigentinny!

Mrs Rusbridge will continue to teach P1B on a Monday and Tuesday until the Summer holidays.

Parent / Carer Consultations
All parents and carers who require and Interpreter have been sent their appointment times. We sent these home by letter and text message. We look forward to seeing you at your allocated time on the 31 March.

Miss Simpson in P1B will do her Interpreter Consultations on 1 April.

Lost Property
We have a large amount of clothing in our lost property. We will have this out on display after school on 31 March. Please come and take a look if your child is missing anything. Can we stress again how important it is to put your child’s name on their items of clothing.

Bikes and Scooters
A reminder that scooters and bikes must not be ridden within the playground. Please ensure that they are dismounted and walked to the bike racks upon entering school grounds. For safety reasons, e-bikes and e-scooters are not permitted anywhere on school premises.

Milk
Milk for after the Easter break is available to purchase on Parent Pay. Please pay by 30 March. Pupils who receive a free school meal award will receive milk as part of the award.

P7 Transition Clubs
Our Primary 7 Transition Clubs at Leith Academy will run throughout Term 3, giving P7 pupils a fantastic opportunity to experience high school life before joining us after the summer. Pupils are invited to come along and take part in a range of high school clubs, helping them discover new interests and build confidence in a familiar setting. They’ll meet the coaches who run the activities and get to know pupils from other primary schools who may be in their classes next year. It’s a friendly, supportive way to ease the transition and get excited about the move to high school and the extra-curricular opportunities offered here at Leith Academy.

  • Please use the QR code in the flyer or copy and paste the link below to register for the club.

Reminders

Diary Dates – April

School Lunches
Please remember you need to book school lunches by 10pm on a Wednesday for the following week. You can book lunches up until the Easter Holidays.

Class Coffee Mornings
We are looking forward to welcoming you into school for our class coffee mornings again this session. These relaxed gatherings are a lovely chance for you to hear directly from the children about what they have been learning, see some of their work, and enjoy a chat with your child about their learning with a cup of tea or coffee. Each class will host their own coffee morning, where pupils will share highlights of their learning. You might hear about a favourite topic, see a piece of work they are proud of, or hear about a range of areas of the curriculum. Two adults are welcome to attend for each pupil.

Here are the timings:

  • P1–P2: 9:15am
  • P3–P7: 9:00am
  • ESB: 11:10am
  • P6A, P6/7, P7A: 9.15am to 10.30am

Each coffee morning will last around 30 minutes. The dates for each class are:

31.03.26P6A, P6/7, P7A
14.05.26P3B
03.06.26P1B
04.06.26P1A

We hope you will be able to join us — it means so much to the children to share their learning with you, and we always enjoy having families in school.

Phones and Smart Watches
Children cannot use phones or smart watches (with the function to call or message) during the school day for any reason.  Children who bring mobile phones are asked to keep these in their school bags or hand them into their class teacher for safe keeping.  Children wearing smart watches with the function to message or call will be asked to do the same thing and these cannot be worn during the school day.  Phones and smart watches are also not permitted in the school playground before the start of the school day.  Children are asked to put away phones and smart watches by school staff when they arrive in the school playground in the morning.

Absence
It is crucially important that you contact school to inform us of your child’s absence by any of the options below:

Phone or voicemail on 0131 661 2749.

Text or message via the Xpressions App.

Email on admin@craigentinny.edin.sch.uk

Failure to let us know that your child is absent will mean that you will receive multiple calls and messages until we have information about where your child is.  This is for important safety reasons and ensures that both school and home know where the child is.  Failure to get in touch or respond to the messages and calls means that we report a welfare concern for your child to Social Care Direct.  It is also important to know the reason for your child’s absence as we required to monitor and report infectious conditions e.g. sickness and diarrhoea to the Health Protection Team.  We really appreciate your support with this.

Eat, Meet and Play (EMP) – Leith and Restalrig Church (LARCH)
The next EMP is 27 March at 12pm here at the school. Pupils must be accompanied by an adult.

Future Dates:
Friday 24th April
Friday 15th May
Friday 19th June – at McLaren hall
