Primary 5 – 2026

P5 were inspired by the intricate carvings of dragon heads on Viking longships, to create these dragon eyes. First, they sketched the outline of the eye then added shapes and patterns to produce scales. The addition of colour and fine black pen brought the dragon eyes to life. We do feel they are watching us in class and in the corridor!

During Social Studies, we built up a timeline showing when the Viking era fitted in with other time periods we have learned about, such as Ancient Egyptians, the Victorians and Mary Queen of Scots. Some children helped to build up a timeline for our display board and we all added mini-timelines to our jotters.

We enjoyed being out in the Autumn sunshine for P.E. this week, playing a game which was created by a P5 pupil as part of a homework task. Each team had 20 shuttlecocks and 3 hoops with a value of 1 point, 5 points and 10 points respectively. Once all the shuttlecocks were thrown, the points had to be added – giving everyone some quick mental maths practice! There was a slight breeze, so occasionally points were inadvertently given away to another team, as the shuttlecocks changed direction! It was lots of fun and the game was given a big thumbs up by the class.

In numeracy, P5 have been learning to add and subtract multiples of 10 and 100, when working with 3- and 4-digit numbers. We can use place value charts to work out exchange e.g. using 100 as 10 tens or using 1,000 as 10 hundreds.
